My guess is if you running a driver version below 2.2.53.0 you are most likely affected by this performance issue. The performance issue was present on that host also.ДЄccording to qedf release notes there is a performance related fix in driver version 2.2.53.0. I also found a host with a much older driver (2.2.38.0).

We saw a dramatic improvement in performance in both cases вЂ“ around 45000 IOPS, about 3000 MB/sec throughput, and around 5ms latency. We upgraded some of our hosts to driver version 2.2.55.0 and some to driver version 2.2.62.0. We opened a case with a vendor, and the support pointed out that while we were running an officially supported qedf driver version 2.2.52.1, it is prone to performance issues under load. I did several other tests on both hosts, and I saw that maximum throughput on problematic host never reached above 600MB/sec. Immediately I noticed the difference when I started the test вЂ“ 40000+ IOPS, around 2300MB/sec throughput, and around 5ms latency. After some testing, I migrated my test VM to a different host with Emulex HBA. I saw about 6000 IOPS, about 550MB/sec throughput, and around 40ms read and write latency. Since I did not have any previous baseline, I didnвЂ™t know what to make out from the numbers. Workload pattern вЂ“ 64K io size вЂ“ 65% read/35% write вЂ“ 50% random. Esxtop showed high KAVG/cmd.ДЇor testing purposes, I created a Windows VM with an iometer and tried to replicate the io pattern of the database. We tweaked with queues in Guest OS and ESXi with no results.

Under higher load, we are seeing latency going up and queueing happening.
